Applicants Sought for the Workforce Investment Board
The Ramsey County Board of Commissioners and Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman are seeking applicants for the Ramsey County Workforce Investment Board (WIB). The WIB provides broad community leadership in all areas of workforce development, develops a comprehensive county-wide strategy to meet the community's workforce development needs under the Federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998, and provides oversight and policy direction to the consolidated city-county workforce development department, Workforce Solutions. Potential citizen volunteer members should be residents of or work in Ramsey County.
The 33-member WIB is comprised of for-profit business representation of at least 51percent. WIB members also represent community-based organizations, education, economic development and labor organizations. Other WIB members represent the one-stop Workforce Center partners such as the Job Corps, Job Service/Unemployment Insurance, Veterans, Rehabilitation Services, Title V Older Worker Programs, Welfare-to-Work Programs, Adult Education and Community Development Block Grant Programs.
Ramsey County is recruiting individuals to represent various categories, applications will continue to be accepted for future vacancies as well. Please indicate on the application the category or categories you can represent on the WIB. New terms are normally for two years commencing on the date of appointment and ending on July 31.
Full WIB meetings are held the first Thursday of every other month from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Members are expected to also serve on at least one standing committee; committee meeting schedules vary.
